As a pediatric specialist, I have an established mission to help children and their families adjust to life changes and losses, improve coping with medical and development issues, learning disabilities, and to manage emotional and behavioral challenges with confidence. For nearly 20 years, I have used a collaborative care model to help families, educators, and other pediatric specialists work together to create positive outcomes for children and teens. I combine my clinical acumen with the compassion, optimism, and deep caring that I bring to my work. By sharing my warmth and humor, I hope to set you at ease, to create the environment of comfort and security so necessary to a productive therapeutic relationship.
I earned my doctorate in clinical psychology, with honors, at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. I have provided psychological care for children at Chicago’s Children’s Memorial Hospital, The University of Minnesota Medical School Department of Pediatrics, Children’s Research Triangle, and in private practice. I have lectured across North America on child psychology and neurodevelopment. In 2003 I was nominated to Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare for pioneering work in the treatment of children with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, through a federally funded research project with The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
I have been so fortunate to receive exceptional educational and professional growth opportunities across my career. As a way to give back to the community and profession, I have served on executive boards (Illinois Professional Society on the Abuse of Children, Redwood Psychological Association), provided consultation to colleagues and supervision to clinicians-in-training (Children’s Research Triangle, Chrysalis Community Counseling Services), worked with with social and human service agencies, and taught college and graduate students in psychology. Lifelong learning has been a cornerstone in my own life and career, so most recently I sought training in EMDR Therapy, which allows me to now offer more effective trauma treatment for children, teens, and adults.
When I’m not in the office, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, exploring the beautiful outdoor spaces in Sonoma County, and learning many interesting lessons from my rescue horse.
